Just what is 'Get Honest'? It is my belief that people carry around too many burdens they were never meant to carry. Christ came to lighten our mental and emotional and spiritual loads by the work of the cross. But even believers walk around with unconfessed sin or unconfessed burdens due to the deep intense pain of their souls, too afraid to be hurt again to risk sharing their wounded places. Some have committed unspeakable acts and are so ashamed of what they have done that they fear public humiliation. Most people are afraid of what others will think of them if their sins or shortcomings or failures or even their victimizations are uncovered. But there is good news. God's Word says, "…love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8 NASB)." And we know that God loves us because THAT IS HIS NATURE. Sin has consequences but unconfessed sin is like a festering infection that is killing us from the inside out. The surface of our lives may appear to be in good health, but the reality is that we are dying. Until that infection is dealt with the body will die…and so it is with our own souls.

I would like to provide a safe place for you confess your hurts and your sins…but I will not leave you there. This portion of DennisJernigan.com is meant to be a safe haven for you. As you confess your burdens, they will be kept anonymous. As you confess your wounds and failures here, you will be emptying your soul - and it is important that you not leave those places empty. My team and I will be seeking God for wisdom from His Word that we will post along with your confession so that you might fill that empty place with something good and right and holy. When we fill the broken places of our lives with His wisdom and love, we are more likely to live our lives more fully in Him…and that is a good thing.

According to God's Word there are many benefits of confession. Here are a few examples:

Confession leads to…

Forgiveness

I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I did not hide; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"; And You forgave the guilt of my sin.
Psalm 32:5 NASB

Salvation

…if you confess with your mouth Jesus {as} Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
Romans 10:9-10 NASB

Healing

…confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
James 5:16 NASB

Cleansing

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 NASB

A Place for God to Dwell in our Hearts

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.
1 John 4:15 NASB

Confession and honesty are good things. God's Word tells us in John 8:32 NASB that 'you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.' We never get to the truth, though, until we take the first step truth requires…and that is our own honesty. It took me years to get free from homosexuality because I was so afraid of what people might think and do. That was simply the lies of the Enemy trying to keep my wounds festering and infecting every area of my life. The day I finally became honest the opposite of all I had feared took place. People embraced me and loved me right where I was! And that is God's heart. He loves you RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE…but He also loves you enough to NOT LEAVE YOU THERE. Are you ready to begin the journey toward healing and hope and freedom in a certain area of your life? Then get honest. Here's what you do:

  • Give your email address. This will not be made public. It is simply so we might send you Scriptural wisdom regarding the thing you confess. We will NEVER use your name or your email address for anything other than PRIVATE correspondence.
  • In the box provided, confess your sin or your failure or your hurts in 25 words or less. DO NOT use your name or any identifying remarks. We will publish your confession once we have sought the Lord for wisdom for your soul and sent that wisdom to you.
  • Once you have received our response we encourage you to put on the wisdom of God and seek an intimate relationship with Him through Jesus Christ.

'…for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, 'For we also are His children (Acts 17:28 NASB).' We are made by God and we should go to Him with our needs. If we have a computer problem we do not go to the local ice cream store for repairs, do we? We go to the manual and to the manufacturer…and so we should go to the Manual (God's Word) and to the Manufacturer (The Lord) for repair of our own souls. We have God's Word and we have direct access to Him through prayer. Confession is where it all begins.

I confess my need for help.

I confess my need for a Savior.

I confess my need for cleansing.

I confess my deepest failures and deepest wounds.

I confess my need for God.

I confess Jesus Christ as Lord over that which I confess as sin or failure.

I confess the truth of His Word to replace the failure with forgiveness and hope.

I confess the truth of His Word to replace the broken places of my soul with His healing presence.

I confess I will stop trying to meet my needs in ways they were never meant to be met.

I confess that I will look to Him for my needs and to nothing other than that which He provides.
