Accompaniment Track MP3: You Are Here

You Are Here - Song History
WORDS & MUSIC

This song came to me as I thought about all God has done to get me to where I am now. My life has been awesome. A beautiful, strong, amazing wife. Nine incredible, loving children. Twelve incomparable grandchildren - so far. Music that is sung literally around the world. Yet, I still have moments of pain and sorrow and fear and discouragement just like any other person would. As I thought about how to overcome the pain, sorrow, fear, and discouragement, I quite naturally thought about my current health crisis. Living with Parkinson’s. Fear and discouragement come when I allow myself to believe the enemy’s lies about what may or may not await me in the future. Pain is simply a part of life - and quite often comes as a result of my own sin. Sorrow comes from thinking about what I have lost - or what I might lose. To allow such thoughts to control my mind leaves me feeling hopeless - like a ship caught in a whirlpool that is slowly but surely circling the drain into the downed spiral into some great abyss. That is what we call ‘stinkin’ thinkin’!
How do we stop wrong thinking? We put on right thinking. In other words, we put off the lies from our minds and we replace them with the simple truth of God’s Word. His Word to me on the day this song was born? “You are not alone, son. I Am here.” This simple truth is [art of the bedrock of my faith. This simple truth alleviates pain, comforts me in sorrow, replaces fear with the won’t-let-go love of God, and brings great encouragement to my soul that reminds me that my God wastes nothing. Not even my illness. I am not alone. Ever. He is here…

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; [we are] afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death works in us, but life in you. 2 Corinthians 4:7-12 NASB

Verse
My heart shattered in a thousand million pieces
Broken by a circumstance beyond my choice
Though my heart is broken I still have good reason
To be grateful and good reason to rejoice

Chorus
You are here
Just as close as my heart beating
You are here
Close enough to feel You breathing

You are here
Even when I’m feeling nothing
You are near
I just know
You are here

Verse
By Your love You somehow heal the broken pieces
Even those that broke because of my own sin
And Your great love brings forgiveness and releases
Me from darkness giving grace to rise again

Chorus
You are here
Just as close as my heart beating
You are here
Close enough to feel You breathing

You are here
Even when I’m feeling nothing
You are near
I just know
You are here

Chorus
You are here
Just as close as my heart beating
You are here
Close enough to feel You breathing

You are here
Even when I’m feeling nothing
You are near

I just know
I just know
I just know
You are here
