As I stop to think about the many various twists and turns my life has taken, I can not help but think of how my Father has taken what I thought was too broken to ever fix and make something beautiful out of all those broken pieces. He took my wounded, broken sexual identity and redeemed me in the process. He took my greatest shame and had me testify about it to the world, eradicating the shame in the process. He took the times of betrayal and scorn I experienced and replaced them with trust and affirmation. From my perspective, my life was a jumbled broken mess that seemed irreparable…yet He took the broken pieces of my life and put me back together again. What remains are the beautiful scars of remembrance of His life-changing love and sustaining grace. What I saw as a mess, He made into a masterpiece that declares His glory to a lost and broken world. Like a beautiful mosaic that is formed of broken shards…or a stained glass window formed of broken pieces of glass…or a tapestry of formerly tattered threads woven into a beautiful display of His goodness and glory, my life has been forever changed. In the process of Him taking the broken pieces of my life, I have learned that my perspective is not the correct perspective. My life is best lived when I view it from the Master Creator’s point of view. That’s how this song came to be born.
