Songs of Deliverance

Many of the songs I receive are very specific in nature. Call it a ‘word of knowledge’ or a ‘prophetic song’…call it what you will, but hearing a song of deliverance from the heart of God for another soul is a level of freedom for both the receiver and the one on the receiving end that is truly beyond human understanding to fully grasp. God tells us in His Word that He will surround us with songs of deliverance…not just for ourselves, but for others we are in relationship with. I have received many such songs – not only for myself – but for countless others. The song It’s Gonna Be Alright is such a song. Born out of a need in my own family as well as for a need in a another family, this song transcended our family’s situation and became a song of deliverance for thousands and thousands of others. Spend time this week focusing on what Jesus focused on – meeting the needs of others. Be ready to receive a song of deliverance…and then share it with those who need to hear it!

You are my hiding place;

You preserve me from trouble;

You surround me with songs of deliverance.

Write Relationally -

I would guess that 99.9% of every song I have received has come through some relationship, whether with my God or with some person I am in fellowship with. Relationship is life. When I receive a song of worship I address my Father relationally as I sing that song. When a friend or family member hurts, I ask the Lord to give me a song that will minister to them. Sometimes that song comes from Father’s perspective but it often comes as a means to help the person I am ministering to reach out to God. No relationship is off limits or unusable by the Lord. Even if you only have a few seconds with another human being but recognize a need in their soul, God can use that moment to birth an idea – or an entire song. Use these songs to minister to these people one-on-one. Who says you need a crowd or a recording deal to do that? Believe. Receive…and then release what you have been given.

'For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.'

Jesus

Write Just For the Fun of It

Even though the subject matter of my life tends to lead me to deep places of dire and serious ministry, I sometimes write what I feel just for the sheer joy of it! In order to go to the depths to which ministry requires I go sometimes to reach a hurting soul, I fill my own soul with joy. I recently wrote a song using the ukulele – just for the sheer fun I knew that instrument would lend to a song of joy! That song is called Might as Well Be Happy and came during one of those silly moments of human fun that was infused with God’s anointing for a song! Do you take time to fill your soul with joy and laughter? My serious, ministerial songs are always born out of a joyful soul that allows me the grace to reach to the depths such a song requires me to go. Spend time writing a silly song today and see if God is not just as concerned with blessing you as when you are in pain or sorrow! It’ll do you good!

A joyful heart is good medicine,

But a broken spirit dries up the bones.

Proverbs 17:22 NASB

Think Outside the Box

The moment we put God in a box, that is all we get of Him. Why would we ever want to limit Someone Who is utterly limitless? To limit God is to limit creativity! In the same regard, we need to take ourselves out of the boxes the enemy and his lies – and our wrong thinking – places us in. In Christ, you are a new creation. You are a child of the Most High God. You are a joint-heir with Christ. You are invited to partake of the feast of His presence and not relegated to sit beneath the table and settle for the crumbs of life. Who says you can’t write a movie score…or write a hit country song…or write the next great novel…or write a song that addresses something no one has thought to address before? You, as a child of God, must believe who He says you are and then receive it…and, most importantly, think, breathe, and live as a child of the King. It will greatly affect your ability to receive creatively from Father.

"With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God." Jesus
